The Most Common Exercise Machines

When it comes to exercising and fitness just knowing where to start can leave you feeling exhausted! The gym may have seemed like the most logical place to start but one look at all that complicated equipment, most of which seems to come with more computers that NASA, and you’re suddenly feeling like you really are in over your head. Any reputable gym will not let you head straight out on to the equipment. They’ll give you an assessment, find out what you want to achieve and recommend the machines and exercises that will suit you best. Below are just three of the more popular machines you’re likely to come across and what you can expect from them.

The vibration trainer may seem like a new ‘too good to be true’ piece of equipment. It works by exposing the body to dozens of vibrations per second which cause the muscle to involuntary contract and relax each time. This in turn strengthens not only the muscles but it increases bone density too. Vibration training has also been proved to increase blood circulation as well. The main appeal of these machines is that they work very well without the need of excessive exercise.

When it comes to exercise machines, the treadmill is certainly one of the most popular. Although some might argue going for a run is free and doesn’t require specialist equipment it’s not always that easy. If the weather’s not very nice, or if it gets dark early, going out for a run on the streets is not going to be safe. Using a treadmill instead means you’re in a safe and well lit environment. Your whole body will get a good cardiovascular workout but the treadmill is primarily designed to build and tone your leg muscles.

Another common piece of fitness equipment you’ll want to consider for your new workout routine is the exercise bike. Because they don’t need to have any electrical parts, exercise bikes have always been one of the cheaper pieces of exercise equipment. This means they’re often the first piece of exercise equipment people buy. If you’re just starting a new exercise routine, they’re perfect at accommodating this. This is because the body experiences very little stress especially on the joints so it’s perfect for acclimatising yourself to a new routine. Recumbent bikes are bikes that provide back support and you peddle almost in a lying down position. Exercise bikes means there’s no impact stress on the joints which is another reason it’s so popular with beginners.

Don’t forget to talk get some professional advice on exercise and training before you start. If you’re advised against doing anything you should always listen and only use the equipment you feel confident with. It’s equally important not to push your own body too far. Warm up before you start any exercise; cold joints are more likely to get damaged.
